A sculptural gold ring of about 1900, set with a natural mined gold nugget.The nugget is 18 x 9mm and unaltered: irregular, textured and organic, with natural hollows from its formation. It is even purer than the ring, at approximately 22K. Nuggets like this came from the great 19th-century gold rushes, in Alaska, California and Australia, and were kept as souvenirs or set into jewellery as tokens of prosperity or remembrance.The plain hoop is solid, round-section 21K gold and carries a French control stamp.Unusual, tactile and easy to wear.Details: c.1900; 21K gold, French control stamp; natural gold nugget approx. 22K, 18mm x 9mm; UK K½, US 5½; 4.34g.Condition: The nugget is unpolished and well secured.
