Rather than the rectangular table-cut stones more commonly encountered in rings of this date, the ruby has an unusual rounded faceted form, giving the ring a surprisingly modern appearance while remaining entirely consistent with experimental 17th-century gem cutting.\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003eA faded later French control mark is present to the outer band, indicating the ring subsequently passed through or was later auctioned in France.\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003eThe ring weighs 3.79g and is a UK size M½ \/ US 6.5. The box bezel measures approximately 7mm across.
