A poetic and beautifully crafted antique French mid-19th century ring, from the Napoléon-III period, circa 1850. Executed in rich 18K gold, this ring evokes the naturalistic ideals of the period, with a sculptural design that frames a whole natural pearl as though nestled in a woodland nest. The off-round natural pearl (measuring approximately 7×7×5mm) is not split or hemispherical, as is typical in most period ring settings, but left whole and set high within a circular bezel of finely modelled branches, typical of mid-19th century French jewellery. Each branch terminates in a tiny rose-cut diamond, creating a delicate crown-like setting that secures the pearl with both elegance and ingenuity. The shoulders and hoop are textured in imitation of twisted wood, giving the ring an organic, sculptural character. The ring bears a French 18K control mark and possibly further marks, though these are very small and partly obscured. The ring is a UK ring size P / US size 7.75, and weighs 3.61 grams in total. In excellent antique condition with no damage or replacements. A rare survivor in original form, this piece captures the mid-19th century French fascination with replicating the texture of branches in jewellery.
