The phrase derives from an 1889 poem written by Rosemonde Gérard to her husband, playwright Edmond Rostand: \u003cem\u003e“Today more than yesterday, and far less than tomorrow.”\u003c\/em\u003e Alphonse Augis transformed the sentiment into jewellery in the early 20th century, creating one of the most recognisable French love tokens.\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\u003cdiv\u003eThis later example has an especially decorative design, with a central sunburst medal suspended within an open heart, accented with enamel and a \u003cstrong\u003ebaguette-cut red spinel\u003c\/strong\u003e forming the minus sign.
